I approach counseling from a person-centered perspective, where I believe people are able to change when they feel safe, heard, and understood by their counselor. A counselor can help clients by being genuine, non-judgmental and accepting of clients as they are. I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques including: Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Therapy and Strengths-Based Therapy. I tend to tailor my approach based on our agreed upon goals for counseling. I view counseling as collaborative, where you are the expert in your story and I am here to listen, support and encourage. My counseling style is direct, genuine and relationship-based.
I’ve completed 20+ hours of training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders in order to work with women that are pregnant, have experienced birth trauma, infertility difficulties, pregnancy loss and have complex trauma. I am an active member of Perinatal Support Washington where I am able to regularly participate in trainings. I've completed over 40 hours of training in order to help women and children that have been affected by domestic violence. As an intern, I was able to participate in a program called the Children's Domestic Violence Response Team where I was able to counsel women and children affected by domestic violence.
